Borrowing from Mary Shelley's classic for Trump-era politics

The newly annotated edition Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus (newly annotated) has more detail in new footnotes, an improved introduction and a number of minor corrections.

Shelley's story of Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus that the potential to advance technology and society forward - though never without risk - was given expression in the election of Donald Trump as American President. Is Trump a Doctor Victor Frankenstein, intent on advancing American society - at least from his rhetoric - though, naturally, with risks?

The comparison has been made in the CNN article "Harry Reid: Trump is GOP's 'Frankenstein monster'". Alternatively, we could say that the GOP was Dr Frankenstein trying out an experiment to generate a wonderful creation - and if Trump works with Russia for peace in Syria, pulls out of NATO, and ceases the military harrassment of China, and ensure that American cars drive on American rods, then the Promethean aspect of Trump will be more evident than the 'Frankensteinian'.
